The programme was attended by the students of First BA Economics. The session provided them with valuable insights into entrepreneurship, innovation, and the opportunities available through the college's innovation platforms. Students gained a better understanding of how they can transform their ideas into viable business ventures with institutional support.

PROGRAMME DETAILS

The Department of Economics organised an orientation session on entrepreneurship for the students of First BA Economics on 11 June 2026 at the Arts Block. The session was led by Dr. Mary Liya C.A., who delivered an inspiring talk on the growing importance of entrepreneurship in today's rapidly changing world.

Dr. Mary Liya highlighted that entrepreneurship is not merely about starting a business but about identifying opportunities, solving real-life problems, and creating value through innovation. She encouraged students to think creatively, develop leadership qualities, and cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset from the early stages of their academic journey.

The resource person introduced the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) and explained its role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among students. She also provided an overview of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) and the Teresian Innovation and Business Incubation Council (TIBIC), explaining how these platforms support students by providing mentorship, training programmes, workshops, networking opportunities, incubation support, and guidance to transform innovative ideas into successful ventures.

The session also emphasised the importance of joining these innovation forums, as they offer students opportunities to participate in competitions, innovation challenges, start-up initiatives, and skill development programmes. Dr. Mary Liya encouraged students to believe in their ideas, nurture creativity, and confidently pursue entrepreneurial opportunities with the support of the college's innovation ecosystem.

The programme concluded with an interactive discussion during which students clarified their doubts regarding entrepreneurship and the functioning of IIC, IEDC, and TIBIC. The session ended with a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person for her informative and motivating presentation.
