The Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, St. Teresa's College (Autonomous), Ernakulam, in association with AFST(I) Cochin Chapter, organized a programme to commemorate World Food Safety Day 2026 on 8 June 2026 from 1.00 p.m. to 2.00 p.m. at the college campus. The programme was conducted under the global theme “From Burden to Solutions – Safe Food Everywhere”, highlighting the importance of food safety in protecting public health and ensuring access to safe and
nutritious food for all.
The significance of World Food Safety Day was presented by Dr. B. Jacob, President of AFST(I) Cochin Chapter. He explained the growing global concern regarding foodborne illnesses and stressed that food safety is a shared responsibility involving food producers, processors, regulators, retailers, and consumers. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. D. D. Nambudiri, Former Dean, College of
Fisheries and Adjunct Professor, KUFOS. His session provided valuable insights into contemporary food safety challenges and the importance of maintaining quality standards throughout the food
supply chain.
An interactive quiz programme was conducted by Ms. Sonia Biju, Quality Manager, FQLab. The quiz covered various topics related to food hygiene, food contamination, food safety regulations, nutrition,
and public health. Students participated enthusiastically, making the session both informative and engaging. The activity helped reinforce the concepts discussed during the programme and encouraged
active learning among the participants. The winners of the quiz competition were honoured during the prize distribution ceremony with cash prizes. The prizes were distributed by Sri Sasikumar, Vice President of AFST(I) Cochin Chapter.
