On 19th February 2026, the Department of Physics hosted a prestigious Expert Talk titled “100 Years of Quantum Mechanics” to commemorate a century of one of science's most revolutionary fields. The session featured Prof. V. P. N. Nampoori, a distinguished Visiting Professor from the International School of Photonics, CUSAT. Prof. Nampoori took the audience—comprising students, faculty, and research scholars—on a chronological journey through the development of quantum theory. Key focus areas included: • Historical Evolution: Tracing the transition from classical physics to the quantum breakthroughs of the early 20th century. • Fundamental Principles: An exploration of the core tenets that define the quantum world, presented in an accessible yet academically rigorous manner. • Transformative Impact: A look at how quantum mechanics serves as the bedrock for modern technologies, including lasers, semiconductors, and emerging quantum computing. The session went beyond theory, utilizing an interactive presentation style to connect abstract concepts with Real-World Applications. By highlighting how quantum physics continues to shape modern science, the talk provided academic enrichment, deepening the conceptual understanding of undergraduate and postgraduate students and research inspiration, offering scholars fresh perspectives on the future directions of photonic and quantum research.
