The Department of English and Centre of Research, in association with the Library Club and Teresian International, organised a discussion on the book “The Swaraj Spy” with the author himself– Vijaya Balan, on Tuesday, the 14th of February 2023 at 11am. The event was held in the college AV room, where Mr. Vijaya Balan led the audience to a deep insight into the challenges accepted during the notions of wartime and the transforming loyalty displayed as a man goes from a British servant to a rebel spy. The event was planned, organised, and conducted by 1st year Literature undergraduates. The programme was anchored by 1st year Literature student Aaysha who invited Aneeta to gracefully greet the attendees and guests who included friends and personal connection of the author as well. After a short note about the book and its central theme, the stage was held over to 1st year MA Literature student– Maxlin, who went on to further introduce the author and sparked off a detailed discussion with him. It was an interactive session where the moderator put forward questions regarding the visual writing style, methods of research, mental speculations during each step of production, challenges faced, process of publishing, etc. Aided with deep perception of history, Mr Balan elaborated his personal connection with the story. Along with enlightening the audience with varying perspectives of his historical fiction, the author recited several excerpts from the novel. Upon the close of the interactive session, a vote of thanks was delivered by Mehadhiya. Students who wished to interact with the author were asked to stay back after the closing of the session to take part in fruitful discussions with author. A few words of gratitude and wishes exchanged by the audience and the guests concluded the event.
