In association with the Kochi Biennale 2022, Tanya Abraham of The Art Outreach Society curated an art project titled “Who Put Out the Fire?” that aims at questioning and understanding the gender roles and patriarchy pertaining to the women of Mattanchery, Fort Kochi. The project focused on the kitchens, which act as women dominating spheres and worked to unearth the stories and ideologies connected with the kitchen. The artwork would be in the form of short videos and images and would be titled under “A Place at the Table; Where is Amma?”. The exhibition is set to start on December 11th. Tanya Abraham, the curator and editor of the project in collaboration with the department of english and centre for research, St. Teresa’s college urged the students to participate in the project by contributing their perceptions of the kitchen in forms of videos and photos and short write ups pertaining to their images. She also shared a glimpse into her work, by showing the students presentations and stories of the women in Mattancherry who took part in the project.
