Dr. Linda Therese Luiz(asst. Professor, Dept. of Sociology) led the interactive session about

MOOC platform and SWAYAM portal. She talked about how these platforms offer their courses

nationwide to each and everyone irrespective of their age. There are more than nine hundred

courses offered by NPTEL platform. NPTEL platform offers courses from IITs and

IISC.Professors from IITS and IISC will be the mentors for every student. The course duration is

four to eight weeks. Twelve week courses are also available. Certain credit scores are also allotted

for each course. Based on this we can earn up to six credits from a course. On the course completion

we will get an e-certificate with our name, profile photo,score percentage etc. The enrollment to

NPTEL is free and courses are available online as recorded and live videos. Exam registration fee

has to paid at the time of examination. We have to sign in to the NPTEL portal before enrolling in

the program. This involves certain procedures. We can have tutors from the most prestigious

universities in India. These courses give us credit points and it will be added to our ABC account.

She also talked about the importance of learning something new.

Ma’am also introduced other open course offering sites, especially those websites which offer

courses from international universities.

OUTCOME:

We learned about the SWAYAM portal and MOOC platforms. We also understood how to earn

credit scores using open courses. We also learned that earning more than twelve credits on a

specific subject is equal to doing a minor in that subject. These open course platforms are useful

in professional and career related activities. They also improve our abilities and enhance our

skills.
